1939 McCall's Magazine cover - They had Betsey McCall paper dolls in them that I eagerly waited for each month....
Grandmas can shed the yoke of responsibility, relax and enjoy their grandchildren in a way that was not possible when they were raising their own children.
And they can glow in the realisation that here is their seed of life that will harvest generations to come.

Oh yes, I do remember McCall's magazine. That is a great picture. Makes me want to be more grandmotherly.
ReplyDeleteAnother magazine I loved was Saturday Evening Post; our mother read us a continuing story about a dog that was printed every month, I believe. The Norman Rockwell covers were wonderful..
ReplyDeleteJust stumbled across your blog....some wonderful posts here!
ReplyDeleteThat cover is perfect....and makes me yearn for a bit more of that type of "family" past. It isn't seen so much anymore. I know the family scenarios caome in all forms nowadays- but this one above had to be the most spectacular one.
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed the posts and hope you return. The covers are stories by themselves;life was simpler than and we had more time for family and friends...
ReplyDeleteExcerpt from a poem I wrote..
Than - we had time for family and friends.
Now - Why change a good thing?
Rememember the good times Now and Than...
