HISTORY OF SALT LAKE CITY / LIFELONG LEARNING
Boomers embrace lifelong learning and have reinvented retirement. However, they are still retiring near college campuses, such as the University of Utah that is north of Sugarhouse neighborhood.
 Have a “hands - on” experience exploring Salt Lake City’s neighborhoods…
Did you know SLC has five older communities with unique characteristics - family-owned casual dining and/or local eateries, local festivals, walking tours for free or $3.00 a person, etc.?

Sugarhouse is one of the oldest sections in SLC founded in 1853, just 10 minutes from Downtown. It is named for a sugar mill that never came to actuality, as the machines didn’t make the journey from France. Houses are exceptional and much sought after. The neighborhood has been revitalized but maintains its distinctive personality.

I was surrounded by tea. Naiyana, an employee indicated a large board - 90 varieties including Black Estates, English… I asked, jesting, “Are we required to read all of them?” She later said that the hardest thing she had to do when she started working there was memorizing all the names of the tea.
The Tea Grotto has the same ambience as a coffeehouse. Comfortable couches to sit and read, people working on laptops. A unique glass-topped table filled with firecrackers, an elephant, bottle caps and a sign: “What is the new thing in the table and you will win a free serving?”
I asked Naiyana, "What is the best-selling tea? “Genmaicha with roasted brown rice .” The restaurant has pairings of tea and food. I tried the tea, and it was paired with polenta.  I enjoyed the Genmaicha, a green tea which has a pleasing nutty flavor and polenta.
Another favorite is Jungpana black tea that is grown in Darjeeling, India. Coffee drinkers, also like Ghillidary – a fine black tea. The shop sells tea in bulk, so you can take your favorites home and share with your friends and family!

Documentary - "All in this Tea" Available on Net Flix - $8.00 a month for membership.
A story of David Lee Hoffman journeys to China starting in 1990 to open up the tea trade. He formed a co-op called "Silk Road Teas" with the farmers; since that time, tea consumption increased over 300%. He had to pay for the tea months before he received it and wouldn't know what he would be shipped. It turned into a viable option and continued until 2004 when he sold it. The film shows the different kinds of tea, how it is processed and the complexities of trading in in a foreign country.
